Play therapy is a therapeutic approach that is used to help children express their thoughts, feelings and behaviours. This approach incorporates games, toys, drawings and art, to mention a few, as a way of helping children express their emotions, thoughts, and needs.
Play therapy for children can assist with a range of difficulties including ADHD in children, anxiety disorders, and behaviour problems as well as bullying and loss, to name a few. With this approach, children use play to communicate and express their feelings and thoughts as they are not able to put these into words as adults can. Issues such as divorce, death and trauma can be dealt with by a professional play therapist in a manner that accesses the child's thoughts and inner world at the child's unique level and pace.
